چکیده

We present an efficient computational method to model fluid flow in the presence of random wall roughness. A random flow domain is represented by a stochastic indicator function having a smoothed profile perpendicular to roughness, and the random domain is discretized with a fixed non-conformal grid. This procedure introduces a stochastic force into the Navier–Stokes equations, and modifies the boundary conditions at the fluid–solid interface. We employ a high-order semi-implicit splitting scheme implemented in the context of a spectral/hp element method in order to discretize the physical domain. The stochastic roughness is treated as a second-order autoregressive process that is represented by a Karhunen– Loève expansion. A multi-element probabilistic collocation method is employed to solve the resulting stochastic Navier–Stokes equations. This method is applied to simulate external flow past a rough cylinder and internal Stokes flow between two parallel plates with random wall roughness. In the first problem, we develop an analytical solution for the asymptotic behavior of the lift coefficient CL to verify the results. In the second test-case, we compare the mean and the standard deviation of the velocity field to those obtained from a different method called stochastic mapping approach (SMA), developed by Tartakovsky and Xiu (2006). 2013 Elsevier B.V. Numerical investigation of free surface flood wave and solitary wave using incompressible SPH method

Simulation of free surface flow and sudden wave profile are recognized as the most challenging problem in computational hydraulics. Several Eulerian/Lagrangian approaches and models can be implemented for simulating such phenomena in which the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) is categorized as a proper candidate. The incompressible SPH (ISPH) method hires a precise incompressible hy...

Effect of Crest Roughness on Flow Characteristics over Circular Weirs

Different construction materials with different roughness used to make circular weirs highly affect surface roughness and, in turn, flow hydraulics passing over these structures.  In the present research, numerous experiments under different hydraulic conditions were performed on a physical model to study the effects of roughness on flow hydraulics over a circular weir. The flow hydraulics incl...

Numerical Investigation of Vertical and Horizontal Baffle Effects on Liquid Sloshing in a Rectangular Tank Using an Improved Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Method

Liquid sloshing is a common phenomenon in the transporting of liquid tanks. Liquid waves lead to fluctuating forces on the tank wall. If these fluctuations are not predicted or controlled, they can lead to large forces and momentum. Baffles can control liquid sloshing fluctuations. One numerical method, widely used to model the liquid sloshing phenomena is Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)....

Three Hybrid Metaheuristic Algorithms for Stochastic Flexible Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Preventive Maintenance and Budget Constraint

Stochastic flexible flow shop scheduling problem (SFFSSP) is one the main focus of researchers due to the complexity arises from inherent uncertainties and also the difficulty of solving such NP-hard problems. Conventionally, in such problems each machine’s job process time may encounter uncertainty due to their relevant random behaviour. In order to examine such problems more realistically, fi...

New Reformulations and Smoothed Penalty Method for Stochastic Nonlinear Complementarity Problems

We consider the stochastic nonlinear complementarity problem (SNCP), which has been receiving much attention in the recent optimization world. We first formulate the problem as a stochastic mathematical program with equilibrium constraints (SMPEC) and then, in order to develop some efficient methods, we further give some reformulations of the SNCP. In particular, for the case where the random v...
